Societies

Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain (PESGB)

5th Floor, 9 Berkeley Street, London W1J 8DW
Tel +44 (0) 207 408 2000

Primarily for geoscientists. The website www.pesgb.org.uk has an exhaustive list of links to other petroleum-related societies in the UK and worldwide.

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)
This is an international society primarily for reservoir and petroleum engineers. Annual subscription in the UK is US$50 or US$80 depending on your age. There are two websites of interest:

  • www.spe.org allows online subscription and provides access (for members) to a searchable database of abstracts to all published SPE papers. Full manuscripts can then be downloaded for a small fee. SPE also publish and sell a large range of technical text books. Technical books from other publishers are also sold. (Slightly) discounted book prices are offered to SPE members;

  • www.spe-uk.org is the joint site of the London and Aberdeen Sections of the SPE. It has information on Section events, a database of consultants and a directory of oil industry products and services. Current and archive copies of the SPE Review magazine can also be downloaded.
